Tenant denies hiring stripper to perform

THE tenant of a corporate box that saw a stripper perform an explicit post-match show has denied hiring the performer.

The Herald Sun can reveal the corporate suite is leased to Melbourne building firm Edgeton Properties.

But in an email to the Herald Sun today a representative denied hiring the Scottish model whose performance marred Saturday's Grand Final.

"Edgeton Properties did not hire a stripper to perform in a corporate suite at the MCG grand final," it said in a brief statement.

It is not known whether the company was using the corporate suite on Saturday or whether it had sub-leased it out.

It has refused to comment on who was using the suite and how the model, Heather McCartney, came to be completely naked shortly after the final siren.

The MCC has launched an investigation into the scandal.

It is understood the club could call a meeting with Edgeton Properties management to determine whether any codes of conduct or contractual obligations had been breached.

She told the Herald Sun that allegations she was flown to Melbourne from the Gold Coast and paid to strip were false.

Now she says she has sought legal advice over the claims.

"No I was not hired as an escort and was in the box with friends," she said.

"I got naked as I had a bet on that if Hawthorn won, I would flash quickly. No shows or performances."

Several sources, including a man who claims he watched the show from within the box, have confirmed Ms McCartney was a paid stripper.

He claimed another patron paid Ms McCartney to attend and she was offered double pay "if she got naked and cheered in front of everyone".

It comes as the Melbourne Cricket Club launched an investigation into the incident.

The 26-year-old flew to Melbourne from her Gold Coast home for footy's biggest day and explained that after a big session drinking she just got carried away.

But sources told the Herald Sun that McCartney, who goes by the name Eva Darling and has worked for FHM, Playboy and Zoo, was paid to strip

In a Hawthorn scarf, McCartney watched the game from the comfort of a corporate box believed to be owned by a prominent Melbourne building firm.

After, she got her kit off, shocking nearby patrons, landing her in jail and earning her a $300 fine.

"It was a bet: I said if Hawthorn win, I'm getting naked. They won, and I got naked," she told the Herald Sun. "What a f---ing day, it was great."

One man who claimed to be in the box said McCartney was hired to attend and promised double pay if she "got naked and cheered in front of "everyone".

During her out-of-control antics, she kicked and punched police who tried to arrest her, attacking one with a high heel and biting another on the finger. "F--- off, I don't have to tell you anything, you f---ing retard," she yelled before hitting one officer in the face.

Pictures of McCartney's routine flooded social media and sparked anger among AFL fans.

AFL Fans Association spokesman Brian Clarke said he was disgusted by the return of the "blokey culture" to AFL.

"It's a disgrace. It's the people's game and it's for families," he said. "This goes against everything the AFL has been trying to achieve. I hope the AFL come down hard on those who were behind this."

Spokesman Patrick Keane said the AFL had been unaware of the incident on the day.

"But the behaviour was completely unacceptable to occur at an AFL game. The MCC is investigating further, and the AFL will await further information."

MCC spokesman Shane Brown said it would work with Victoria Police and the client to establish the circumstances, and appropriate action would be taken.

"From the evidence available, we are very disappointed ... and are taking the matter seriously."

Sport’s stingiest superstars

Rare footage has emerged of a young Michael Jordan taking on the father and son team of actors Martin and Charlie Sheen in a two on one basketball match in 1987.

Tennis legend Pete Sampras is a terrible tipper, according to Andre Agassi. Source: AP

CHEAP champions. Sport has seen a bunch of them.

They make millions and millions of dollars. Sometimes hundreds of millions.

But don't expect them to spend a cent of it if they don't have to.

Below, we list the tightest of the tight. Two of them are apparently billionaires.

MICHAEL JORDAN

THE Chicago Bulls legend still features at the pointy end of Forbes' annual rich lists more than a decade after his playing career came to an end.

Jordan's one of the billionaires we mentioned, but according to his old friend and now foe Charles Barkley, His Airness is "as cheap as they come".

"I always give homeless people money and [MJ will] always slap my hand and say, 'If they can ask you for spare change they can say, 'Welcome to McDonalds, can I help you please?'"

PETE SAMPRAS

IN his book, "Open", Andre Agassi recalled a time when he went to a restaurant with long-time rival Pistol Pete.

As they were leaving, Agassi claims he asked the valet how much 14-time grand slam champion Sampras (career prize money: $43.28 million) had left as a tip.

"One dollar," was the reply.

Agassi also famously called out Sampras over his tightness during a charity tennis match.

It's pretty brutal. Check it out below. It gets good around the 1 minute 30 second mark.

TIGER WOODS

IT'S 1996 and Tiger Woods has just won his first pro tournament, the Las Vegas Invitational. He walks into the press room and leans over, looking at a story being written by a journalist, who asks, "Like it?"

"I like this," Woods responds, pointing to the mention of the $297,000 winner's cheque.

Eighteen years later, Woods is a billionaire. And he didn't get there by spending money, according to his late father Earl Woods.

"That's one of the first things to know about Tiger — he's tight. Very tight,'' Earl Woods said.

Tiger also once topped a list of the Top 10 Cheapest Celebrity Tippers.

Once he allegedly took back $5 after realising he'd already made a tip earlier in the evening.

The size of Woods' wallet is believed to have caused him intense back pain. Source: Supplied

KIEREN JACK

ADDING a bit of Aussie flavour to the list is Sydney Swans star Kieren Jack.

Just last week, coach John Longmire embarrassed the Swans co-captain in a press conference.

Jack was in danger of missing last weekend's Grand Final loss against Hawthorn for rough conduct, but was hit with an $1800 fine instead.

"He's extremely disappointed it's cost him $1800," Longmire joked.

"He's very careful with his money. He might have taken the game (suspension), he ummed and aahed about it.

"He's copped $1800 and is disappointed but I'm sure he'll get on with it."

Jack admitted the stories of him being tight were true and says he got it from his dad, rugby league great Garry Jack, who is also a tight-arse.

"The thing is, most of it is all true, but a lot of it is all old," Jack told mX.

"As a first-year rookie player I was not on a lot of money and living out of home, so I had to find ways to save a dollar. It's escalated from there and they've made up a lot of stories along the way and I've got an old man who is a notorious tight-arse, so it hasn't helped my cause."

Kieren Jack is as stingy a defender as he is in real life. Source: News Corp Australia

LESEAN MCCOY

THE NFL star made headlines earlier this month when an angry manager of a local Philly burger joint exposed McCoy's stingy tip.

McCoy earns 28 cents per second as a running back for the Philadelphia Eagles.

But perhaps he should shift position to tight end after leaving a ridiculously tight 20c tip on a $60 bill.

McCoy claims he was making a "statement" about bad service.

This will change how you think of airport security

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 28 September 2014 | 14.41

Carrier KLM at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has a new employee - a beagle named Sherlock who uses his incredible sense of smell to track the owners of items left on flights.

WARNING: After seeing this achingly adorable video of KLM's newest employee in action you might be tempted to leave your gadgets behind on your next flight into Amsterdam.

Meet Sherlock, the appropriately named beagle tasked by the Royal Dutch Airlines with returning items forgot on planes by passengers flying into Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.

"We train for muscle strength, endurance and, of course, socialisation," says Dirk Van Driel, Sherlock's trainer.

"When you see the reactions of the passengers, that really is amazing."

Doggie to the rescue! Picture: KLM

Judging by the collective "awww" that rings out through the arrivals hall as Sherlock uses his remarkable sniffing powers to track down the owner of a forgot iPhone, the dog is a hit.

"He can really do something no one else can"

KLM says Sherlock is part of a new lost and found team put together in response to the high number of queries about forgot items the airline receives through social media.

Should the incredibly eager beagle not be around to help, the airline uses information such as seat numbers, phone numbers and public social media details to reunite passengers with their belongings.

"Personally, I think he's a real asset to the company," says Chantel Kremer of KLM's ground crew.

"And he can really do something no one else can."

Prized for their phenomenal sense of smell and ability to categorise scents, beagles are a familiar site in airports around the world.

Perhaps the most famous is the Beagle Brigade — made up of teams of dogs that inspect luggage for restricted agriculture at U.S. airports.

What makes Sherlock stand out is that his presence doesn't bring the sense of unease some travellers may feel when one of these little guys starts snooping around their luggage for contraband produce.

Lamborghini prank backfires

The moment the driver saw the fake poo on his car. Picture: YouTube Source: YouTube

A PRANK involving fake poo and one of the world's most expensive cars has gone horribly wrong.

Czech pranksters Erik Meldik and Cenek Styblo were not impressed when they were allegedly cut off by a motorist in a Lamborghini, Channel Nine reports.

So, as a joke, they reportedly decided to place fake faeces on the bonnet of his sports car as payback.

But they never expected what happened next. Upon spotting Styblo, who was pretending he'd just finished doing the deed on his car, the victim pulled out a taser.

"Hey, what are you doing to my car? Get the f--- away from my car," he says.

"What the f--- is this? You think that's funny?

The man then fires the weapon at Styblo, who runs and falls to the ground in pain.

LIVE: Swans in big trouble in GF

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 27 September 2014 | 14.41

Hawthorn rose to the occasion from the outset in the AFL grand final, producing a number of stunning moments that left the Swans rattled.

Buddy Franklin's former teammates gave him some tough love in the early stages of the AFL grand final, the Swans forward copping an elbow to the head from Brian Lake.

5.30PM — HODGE WINS NORM SMITH

HAWKS skipper Luke Hodge has enhanced his reputation as one of the greatest finals players of all-time by claiming his second Norm Smith Medal.

5.20PM — HAWKS GO BACK TO BACK

HAWTHORN has joined the exclusive back to back club after routing the Swans in today's Grand Final by 63 points.

The Hawks led by 20 points at quarter time and never looked back, completing a perfect afternoon against former player Lance Franklin.

Franklin was far from embarrassed, kicking four goals, but the Hawks' offensive juggernaut was too much for the Swans defence to handle as they conceded their largest score of the John Longmire era.

Luke Hodge (35 disposals, two goals), Jordan Lewis (37 disposals) and Sam Mitchell (33) were outstanding while Jarryd Roughead kicked five goals.

4.55PM — SEALED WITH A KISS

HAWTHORN is going to have the last laugh over Lance Franklin as its lead continues to hover around the 10 goal mark midway through the final term.

Franklin has played well, but it can't be easy seeing your former teammates win another premiership — and having to cop a cheeky kiss from Luke Hodge.

4.40PM — HAWKS BY HOW MUCH?

THE Hawks extended their lead to 54 points at three quarter time and if it continues to pile on the goals can record one of the biggest wins in grand final history.

There have been 12 grand finals won by 60 or more points. Geelong holds the record with its 119 point win against Port in 2007.

The other major focus in the final term is who will claim the Norm Smith Medal.

A short time ago Sportsbet had Jordan Lewis a $2 favourite, ahead of Sam Mitchell $2.50 and Luke Hodge $4.

3.40PM — SWANS ALIVE, BUT ONLY JUST

SYDNEY will have to make grand final history to overcome a 42 point half time margin.

Hawthorn has played close to a faultless half of football to take a firm grip on the game.

Hawks leaders Luke Hodge, Jordan Lewis and Sam Mitchell have been exceptional - combining for 51 disposals - while the goals have been shared in attack.

The biggest comeback in grand final history was Carlton's fight back from a 44 point deficit at half time in the 1970 decider against Collingwood.

But the Swans will have to better that after trailing by 47 points at one stage of the second term.

Sydney has been overwhelmed in defence.

After keeping their opponents to an average score of 68 points in the minor round the Swans have already conceded 75 to the Hawks — in one half.

3.20PM — IT'S ALL HAWTHORN

THE Hawks are close to landing a knockout blow midway through the second term, building a 40 point lead.

Luke Breust and Will Langford have two goals each and Sam Mitchell is making an early Norm Smith Medal case by tallying 15 disposals.

Sydney has kicked just three goals and as one clever bloke on Twitter noticed, they've all come from former Hawthorn players (Josh Kennedy, Lance Franklin and Ben McGlynn).

3PM — HAWKS FLEX MUSCLES EARLY

THE Swans were a red hot favourite but Hawthorn has shown it won't be giving up the AFL premiership easily by dominating the first quarter for long stretches.

The Hawks tackling has been significantly better than the Swans and allowed them to build a 20 point quarter time lead.

They could be further ahead given ace goal kicker Jack Gunston has only nailed one of four attempts.

The Swans have conceded the past four goals after Lance Franklin kicked his first of the game.

The star forward sent minor scares through the Swans camp by taking a few seconds to get up after getting crunched by Brian Lake in a marking contest.

But he responded by nailing the goal and will need to kick a few more if the Swans are to fight back into this game.

2.40PM — SWANS STRIKE FIRST

IT WAS a typically frantic start to the game before Josh Kennedy settled Sydney's nerves by driving home a goal from outside 50m.

Kennedy, one of the favourites for the Norm Smith Medal, was a $41 outsider for first goal scorer so paid off handsomely for anyone who backed him.

2.15PM — TIME FOR THE REAL SHOW TO START

ED Sheeran, Tom Jones and Mike Brady have had their turn on the MCG and we're almost ready for the game to begin.

The starting subs have been named for both teams — Taylor Duryea will start in the green vest for the Hawks and Craig Bird for Sydney.

1.40PM — TWITTER REVIEWS ED SHEERAN

ENGLISH singer Ed Sheeran was first up on stage in today's pre-match entertainment and predictably prompted a string of red hair jokes on Twitter.

1.15PM — TOM JONES STUFFS UP — AND THEN APPEARS TO CALL CAMPBELL BROWN A D***HEAD

AFL officials have been nervously hoping Tom Jones will deliver in today's pre-game entertainment but he's already provided one blooper.

The Welsh singer mistakenly referred to the players taking part in today's game as "rugby players" during an interview with former Hawthorn player Campbell Brown on Channel 7.

It's not unusual for the entertainment to go balls up at footy grand finals and it wasn't missed by Aussie footy fans watching the TV.

In a thoroughly awkward exchange, Brown then handed Jones a pair of his underpants — which didn't appear to go down too well.

It certainly sounded like Jones called Brown a "d***head" — and he wasn't smiling.

But some are claiming he said, "Take care."

1PM — ALL THE MONEY WITH THE SWANS

PUNTERS appear to have lost faith in the Hawks.

The latest odds at Tattsbet are Sydney paying $1.52 for the win and Hawthorn $2.65.

Other markets include:

12.30PM — COLOURFUL CROWD STARTS TO BUILD

SWANS and Hawks fans are out in force at the MCG today, anticipating one of the AFL's great Grand Finals.

There's no question the two best sides in the competition will be on show today and despite the Swans entering the game a strong $1.53 favourite most are expecting a tight contest.

The downfall of the world’s richest country

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 26 September 2014 | 14.41

The island of Nauru. Picture: Bradley Hunter Source: News Limited

IT'S a deeply troubled nation that has been plunged into a nightmare scenario, struggling with a failed economy, health crisis and the destruction of its natural beauty. But life wasn't always like this in Nauru.

At just 21 square kilometres, it's the smallest island nation in the world and has a population of just over 10,000. Yet this former British colony, which lies approximately 4000km from Sydney in the Pacific Ocean, was once so prosperous that it was the envy of the entire world.

And it was all thanks to bird poo.

We're not kidding. The discovery of huge deposits of fossilised bird poo that had accumulated for over 1000 years changed this nation forever. It made for an excellent fertiliser and sparked a huge mining effort, first by foreign companies, then by the islanders themselves in 1968 when they achieved independence from Britain.

By 1980 Nauru had become the wealthiest nation on the planet, per capita. A monumental achievement for such a tiny, remote island.

Rolling in riches, the locals abandoned their traditional lifestyles and turned to unhealthy food, alcohol and cigarettes.

It wasn't long before a health crisis hit, and hard.

Life expectancy plunged to just 50, while rates of diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illnesses skyrocketed along with their waistlines. In 2007, 94.5 per cent of its residents were identified by the World Health Organisation as overweight, and 71.7 per cent obese — the highest rate in the world. It was overtaken in the obesity stakes by Mexico in 2013.

These days, Nauru has the highest prevalence of type-two diabetes in the world, affecting 31 per cent of adults.

That was just the start of their problems. The phosphates ran out in the early 1980s, along with the nation's primary income source.

With so much of the island mined, all that was left was an environmental wasteland riddled with decay. The damage is so severe that 75 per cent of the country is uninhabitable.

While Nauru was formerly known as "Pleasant Island" due to its lavish tropical vegetation, it's a harsh reality that it no longer lives up to this name.

'The effects of mining are very distinctive, because the phosphate develops within coral pinnacles, so you have to scoop the phosphate out from within the pinnacles themselves," Professor John Connell, head of the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney told the ABC. "So those scooped areas descend about three metres ... So it produces an extraordinary landscape which is visually quite dramatic and is totally useless for anything else."

Locals were devastated at the loss of their once-stunning scenery.

"I wish we'd never discovered that phosphate," Rev. James Aingimea, 84, the minister of the Nauru Congregational Church told the New York Times at the time. "I wish Nauru could be like it was before. When I was a boy, it was so beautiful. There were trees. It was green everywhere, and we could eat the fresh coconuts and breadfruit. Now I see what has happened here, and I want to cry."

Many residents had quit their jobs and went on huge spending sprees including expensive holiday and shopping trips, and importing sports cars - even a Lamborghini. So there was little cash left.

"Hardly anyone thought of investing the money. Dollar notes were even used as toilet paper," a local told the BBC. "It was like every day was party day."

In the years that followed, the island went virtually bankrupt. The government, who had made a series of bad investment choices, froze wages and started borrowing heavily from trusts.

"A lot of money was invested in things which never actually turned out to work," Professor John Connell, head of the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney told the ABC. 'For example, buildings in overseas countries, like Nauru House in Melbourne, hotels in some countries, phosphate factories, curiously, in countries like India and the Philippines, most of which never really survived."

Now, many homes are run down, and those sports cars are rusted wrecks.

With little financial options, in 2001 Nauru entered into an agreement with Australia to house a detention centre in return for foreign aid, of which they became reliant. As of this year, that amount Australia provides is $27.1 million.

These days, for many Australians, the first thing we think of when Nauru is mentioned is the plight of asylum seekers there. But all that could soon change; the more than 1000 asylum seekers in Nauru could soon be moved to Cambodia under a new deal.

At least there is still some beauty left in Nauru:

#HeyASIO: Are you reading this?

A MOVE to grant Australia's security agency broad new powers has not scared the internet, with Twitter users mocking the changes mercilessly.

Last night, the Senate passed new laws to grant the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) power to, essentially, monitor the entire country's internet usage with only one warrant.

Australian Lawyers Alliance spokesman and barrister Greg Barns has slammed the laws, saying the spy agency could do "an enormous amount under one warrant".

Australia has no specific laws that protect privacy, so innocent people who may be monitored have "very little by way of redress in legal terms".

Mr Barns told news.com.au the law had been drafted in "such a shoddy way" as to allow the agency to spy on as many as five million Australians with one warrant.

"Effectively it's zero for the internet user and 10 for ASIO. We think it's of enormous concern," he said.

The internet has hit back in its own way, with the hashtag #HeyASIO trending in Australia.

Michael Jordan won’t be happy about this claim

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 25 September 2014 | 14.41

Rare footage has emerged of a young Michael Jordan taking on the father and son team of actors Martin and Charlie Sheen in a two on one basketball match in 1987.

WHEN it comes to the iconic cross-generation basketball rivalry between Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, only one man has an opinion of any value.

Phil Jackson has 13 rings in his collection for winning the NBA championship: two as a player with the New York Knicks, six with Jordan and the Bulls and five with Bryant and the Lakers.

Jackson knows the type of competitors these two legends were, and still are, but he also understands what type of men they are, and what drove them to their respective greatness.

While he's already admitted in the past that he would choose MJ over Kobe, he did share another titbit about who worked harder for their title.

During a recent interview with the NY Post, the current Knicks president was asked if Bryant is the model of success that Carmelo Anthony should be following this season.

"No. No one can approach that. I don't expect anybody to be able to model their behaviour after that, although Kobe modelled his behaviour a lot after Michael Jordan, but he went beyond Michael in his attitude toward training, and I know Mike would probably question me saying that, but he did."

At the ripe old age of 36, Kobe Bryant could still very well be the hardest working man in the NBA. He has that killer instinct reminiscent of players in the 90s, and still has a couple of pages left to add to his book.

Bryant may never escape the incessant comparisons to Michael Jordan — particularly as he himself has admitted to modelling himself after the Chicago Bulls great. But then again, he may not want to.

Bulletproof: The bizarre world of biohackers

Bulletproof: Dave Asprey has made an empire touting the art and science of 'biohacking'. Source: Supplied

HE SLEEPS five hours a night, has lost 45 kilograms and claims to have raised his IQ 12 points. Each morning begins with black coffee and a stick of butter and he pops prescription medication for its anti-ageing properties.

Welcome to the world of Dave Asprey, a.k.a. The Bulletproof Executive who is spearheading a new breed of biohackers — a group obsessed with making yourself faster, smarter and stronger through a combination of caveman diets and the latest in modern technology.

MORE: Aussie workers using real-life 'limitless'

It's an extreme version of the paleo-eating, lactose-free, jawbone-wearing lifestyle that is gaining followers as people seek to take advantage of new technology and become a more ultimate version of themselves. But aspects of the trend have doctors and health experts worried it could be doing permanent damage.

"The high tech boom is boring compared to what's happening with biohacking," Mr Asprey told news.com.au from over the phone in California.

"Biohacking is the art and scene of taking control of your own biology. You do that by taking the environment around you and inside you."

He's in Los Angeles to host the second annual Bulletproof Biohacking Conference this weekend billed as a chance for ordinary people to "feel the future of biohacking technologies".

It includes everything from doctors offering intravenous vitamin injections to lung pumps and a device designed to terrify people into a state of "flow" — the mental state achieved by elite athletes when they get in the zone.

Mr Asprey got hooked on the idea after running his own software company left him rich but unhappy. He tipped the scales at 130kg and wandered around in a "brain fog" each day.

He poured $300,000 into hacking his own body and now runs an empire touting everything from his own coffee and supplements to followers.

Some of the more bizarre products on offer include powerlung respirators to make ordinary people breathe like elite athletes and body vibration plates his website claims were invented by Russian cosmonauts, designed to help people find the mental and physical state.

"The old way is to do what you're doing more, the new way is to get data and do what actually works. So many people do things that don't work and keep doing them over and over because they haven't taken control. They haven't had technology to train themselves to do things in a much faster way," Mr Asprey said.

A competitor takes place in the NSW Spartan race. Source: News Limited

His typical days begin with a sleep report via email detailing his heart rate, temperature and movement overnight, followed by half a litre of "bulletproof coffee" and a high-fat diet with vegetables and protein.

"I don't pay attention to food (around him), that's kind of liberating for me. I don't notice bagels; the juiciest piece of bacon and I still don't want it, I'm actually satifisied. As a guy who weighed 300 pounds that's huge," he said.

A controversial part of his repertoire includes taking prescription drugs like Metformin (used for diabetes patients) and Providgil (for narcoleptics) to boost his brain power and stay focused — something definitely not recommended by health professionals.

Not just organic: A number of biohackers use prescription drugs. Source: Supplied

The philosophy is gaining ground in Australia. OptimOz director Leon Wurfel distributes biohacking products to around 5000 customers here and said he sees the community growing into the "next big thing."

"I don't know if we've reached peak paleo yet but I think biohacking is going to be the next big thing," he said.

"Bodybuilders go to gym and take supplements, but the way I think about biohacking is it's for the nerds. Nerds are trying to take over the world, taking all these supplements to try and boost their performance."

Mr Wurfel, who got into biohacking after breaking his collarbone and earning the nickname "powergut", said the combination of diet and drugs have helped him transform from a disgruntled employee to someone running his own company.

"You have to jump through some pretty dodgy hoops to get [the drugs] but it keeps you firing on all cylinders," he said.

Leon Wurfel expects biohacking to be the next big thing in Australia. Source: Supplied

Doctors have warned of the danger of such an approach, saying taking drugs that haven't been prescribed for you is never a good idea.

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners President Dr Liz Marles said prescription drugs are controlled for a reason and whoever prescribes them needs to understand biology intimately.

"When we prescribe, what we're doing is weighing up benefits versus risks. Obviously if you're sick and you've got diabetes then the benefits can outweigh the risks but if you're basically well and you're doing it for other purposes it doesn't take much for that equation to change."

She said Metfromin can lead to problems in those that have trouble with kidney functions and people should never take drugs unless it is prescribed for them.

"Having that evidence allows us as doctors to know what circumstances are safe or not. I don't think any individual can really be certain it won't cause them problems down the track.

The Mediterranean diet is still the best way to lose weight according to one nutritionist. Source: Supplied

Nutritionist Susie Burrell also said there is no conclusive research that shows high fat diets are good for long-term health and it's important to consider how sustainable something is before embarking on a new regime.

"The most simple diet is one that is reducing carbohydrates to compensate for our sedentary lifestyle with more fresh fruit and vegetables, similar to a Mediterranean diet,"she said.

"The basic premise is 7-10 serves of fresh fruit and veg a day, a small amount of whole grains … and lots of lean protein, white fish, a small about of plain dairy and really focused on the good fats. It contains very little processed food."

Ms Burrell also said when it comes to life-logging, apps and ways to measure sleep, calories and exercise can be useful, but don't let it take over your life.

"I think the more awareness individuals have about their behaviours the better, as long as it doesn't tip into obsession. As a tool to keep an eye on mindless behaviour they can be very helpful."

Teen terror suspect shot dead

THE teen terror suspect who was gunned down by police in Melbourne was "angry" his passport had been taken from him and had just broken up with his girlfriend.

Numan Haider, 18, was shot by police after he stabbed two officers outside Endeavour Hills police station last night. It's believed Haider may have been planning to behead police and post footage of the gruesome act online.

Haider's relationship with a woman who converted to Islam had recently ended which devastated the 18-year-old, a friend told the Herald Sun.

More details are emerging about the teenager and exactly why police were keeping close watch on him.

His passport was confiscated after police became concerned at his behaviour — which included standing in a Melbourne mall trying to turn passers-by to Islam.

Last Thursday he was one of five people seen thrusting brochures into shoppers' hands. He was then surrounded by police.

A witness said he was dressed in Army camouflage pants and was holding a black and white flag.

People who knew him said he was a good kid who had become "brainwashed".

He had complained about having his passport removed and about "harassment" from the AFP.

"They were always knocking on his door," one man said.

"He was frustrated, angry ... How would you feel if they (police) kept coming into your home?"

Another friend said Haider's mother had no clue as to her son's activities.

"She is in shock and very upset."

Police believe Haider's plan was to follow instructions from the Islamic State and behead officers and then cover their bodies in the Islamic State flag, The Age reports.

He had written on his Facebook page he believed AFP officers and ASIO agents were "dogs" who were declaring war on Muslims and Islam and posted images of himself standing proudly with an Islamic flag and in military gear.

Haider agreed to meet with two police officers for an "amicable discussion" at a Melbourne police station when the stabbing happened without warning.

Minutes after he arrived outside the station and peacefully shook hands with the officers the two cops were brutally stabbed and he was shot dead.

Addressing media in Melbourne earlier today, Victoria Police Commossioner Ken Lay said the young man had been known to police for three months, and late last week police learned of "behaviours that were causing significant concern". He was believed to be under investigation for threats against the Prime Minister and Mr Lay confirmed police had information the fanatic had been seen waving Islamic State flags at a local shopping centre.

AFP acting commissioner Andrew Colvin also confirmed the young man was among a number of people whose passports were recently cancelled, and his was seized last week.

Mr Haider had agreed to meet with a Victoria police officer and a Federal police agent outside Endeavour Hills police station in Melbourne's southeast at about 7.45pm.

The federal agent, who was part of the Joint Counter Terrorism Unit, is a 43-year-old married man who has two children. He is in serious but stable condition while his colleague, a senior constable, is having surgery on his injuries this afternoon.

Police say he produced a knife and stabbed the Federal agent multiple times, while the Victorian officer was stabbed twice in the forearm.

The Victoria Police officer discharged a single shot, killing the young man.

Commissioner Ken Lay said there was "very limited" conversation before the attack.

"It was more of a matter of greetings, and then the attack occurred," he said.

FROM THE SCENE: NIGHT OF OUR WORST FEARS

Mr Lay said there was no plan to arrest the man last night.

"We needed to have a chat to him about a couple of issues and we just wanted to test some of his thinking," he said.

"This has been a confronting reminder to all police members about the stark realities and dangers that can present themselves at a moment's notice."

It was not known what the threat against Mr Abbott may have involved or whether the teen had been involved in planning some kind of attack.

Tony Abbott has delivered a video message from Hawaii on his way to New York, describing last night's event as a "nasty incident".

The Prime Minister said he has spoken to the wives of both officers, "to assure them of the government's support and of the government's respect for the professionalism with which the Police seemed to have acted here".

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said the shooting by the police officer "was in self defence".

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius said the dead man had acted on his own.

"Obviously both members are in shock but we are doing everything when can to provide them with support and assistance in what is for any police officer an incredibly difficult and challenging time,'' Mr Cornelius said.

"The individual who has died, was invited and did come of his own free will to the police station,'' he said.

"Our members had no inkling that this individual posed a threat to them. As far as we are concerned it was going to an amicable discussion about that individual's behaviour.

"It is absolutely clear to us our members really had no choice other than to act in the way in which they did."

Australian Federal Police Commander Bruce Giles said the man was invited to discuss a "routine matter".

The matter was "something that needed to be spoken about" with the individual, he said.

Following the incident, police officers surrounded the area and diverted traffic from Heatherton Rd in both directions. Onlookers were pushed further back as the taped-off area surrounding the station was extended.

A young boy who lives nearby said he had heard a single shot coming from the area of the police station.

Service station attendant Shafi Miya, who was working across the road when the incident unfolded, said he heard a loud shot. He said the incident had been "pretty scary".

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said on Wednesday morning the AFP officer was in a serious but stable condition. The Victoria Police officer is in a stable condition and will undergo surgery today.

Mr Keenan said an investigation into the issue was ongoing, and while the incident was tragic it should remind the public that they are in the best of care.

"The police are our front line against people who wish to do us harm," Mr Keenan said.

"It is this kind of bravery and dedication shown by these officers that will continue to keep our community safe and secure."

Muslim leaders told a press conference today they didn't want to see their faith "hijacked" by a minority group and cautioned that new anti-terror laws didn't infringe on civil rights and liberties.

They also revealed four major mosques had been threatened in recent days.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott releases statement on the teen terror suspect shot dead by Police in Melbourne.

CALLS TO ATTACK POLICE

The unexpected attack on two police officers follows the release of a propaganda video by terror outfit Islamic State urging followers to target police in Australia.

In the video released online Monday, IS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, encouraged Muslims to kill "disbelievers" in countries including Australia "in any manner".

IS URGES MUSLIMS TO KILL AUSTRALIAN 'UNBELIEVERS'

The 42-minute rant included an order to "strike their police, security and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents".

"If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State … kill him in any manner or way however it may be," Adnani is heard saying, according to an English translation of the script.

Professor Greg Barton of the Global Terrorism Research Centre told news.com.au the video was "a game-changer".

"It confirms the strategies we've been working on are correct, it's a pep talk to rally their troops and this is confirmation of the way Islamic state is moving, towards direct attacks and very real threats here in Australia," he said.

The threat to police officers prompted Queensland Police Commisioner Ian Stewart to announce he would review Queensland Police Service strategies

"As a result of this, we will now reassess, as we do every time there is a specific threat, and review our strategies," he told The Courier-Mail.

Following last night's incident, the Queensland Police union has demanded more protection.

Union boss Ian Leavers urging the commissioner to let officers make applications to take their guns from work if they feel they are at threat.

"[Police] need to be able to protect themselves and others. If another act was to occur while they are on or off duty they have an obligation to defend people," he told AAP.

IMMINENT THREATS

The attack comes as a plot to behead a random Government employee in a vicious terrorist attack has emerged.

The Courier-Mail has revealed an alleged terrorist plot involved the possible beheading of a Queensland "government official" who would be chosen at random, possibly while sitting at the front counter of an agency.

Police allege the plot is linked to 21-year-old Logan man Agim Kruezi, who was "days away" from carrying out an attack when he was arrested and charged two weeks ago.

Police say Australia's biggest ever anti-terror bust carried out in Sydney and Brisbane last Thursday thwarted plans for a random public execution.

Speaking in parliament yesterday, the PM said it was important to respond with "great strength" to disrupt the "imminent terrorist act".

"Regrettably, for some time to come, the delicate balance between freedom and security may have to shift," he said.

"There may be more restrictions on some so that there can be more protections for others.

"Creating new offences that are harder to beat on a technicality may be a small price to pay for saving lives and for maintaining the social fabric of an open, free and multicultural nation."

The speech was aimed at reassuring the public the government is doing all it can to keep the nation safe.

GLOBAL STRATEGY

The Prime Minister was last night on a plane from Canberra to New York to attend United Nations meetings dealing with the rising threat of IS.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is currently in New York attending global counter-terror talks and the United Nations Security Council, and has endorsed US air strikes on Syria targeting Islamic State, but said Australia would not join the attack.

Pentagon officials described the strikes, launched yesterday, as successful.

"These strikes were undertaken to disrupt imminent attack plotting against the United States and Western targets," Admiral John Kirby said.

"It was through the careful planning and coordination of US Central Command's combined arms operations — Combined Air Operations Centre located in the region that these strikes were successful with minimal collateral damage."

NEW TERROR LAWS

In Canberra today, Attorney-General George Brandis will introduce a counterterrorism bill to parliament that will crack down on Australians travelling overseas to fight in conflict.

The new laws will give enforcement agencies powers to investigate, arrest and prosecute, making it easier to prosecute Australian jihadists when they return home from Mideast battlefields.

The bill will be referred to a committee for review, and Labor supports the committee inquiry being expedited and speeding up the public consultation process.

At least 60 Australians were fighting in Iraq and Syria with the Islamic State group and another al-Qaeda offshoot, Jabhat al-Nursa, also known as the Nusra Front, the Prime Minister said on Tuesday, and more than 60 Australian would-be fighters had their passports cancelled to prevent them travelling to the Middle East.

Dozens of suspected fighters have already returned to Australia from the battlefields. Security agencies fear they now pose a domestic terrorist threat, AAP reports.

MUSLIM LEADERS: TRAGEDY HIGHLIGHTS FAILURE

The Islamic Council of Victoria has expressed "deep sorrow" over the incident on Tuesday night which left two officers in hospital, AAP reports.

"There needs to be a full and objective investigation into this incident to ensure that such a tragedy is never repeated," the council said in a statement on Wednesday.

"This tragedy highlights the real cost of a failure to deal with these serious issues and why we have made numerous calls on the Australian government to deal with the root causes of alienation and disaffection of people such as this."

The council said it would support the man's family.

"There will be many questions that they will want answers to and in the fullness of time we expect that the events of last night will become clearer," the council said.

POLITICAL REACTION

Speaking in a video statement from Hawaii, Tony Abbott said the suspect mounted a "fierce attack" on the officers.

"Obviously this indicates that there are people in our community who are capable of very extreme acts," he said.

"It also indicates that the Police will be constantly vigilant to protect us against people who would do us harm."

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said on Wednesday morning he had been in contact with the Prime Minister and had briefed the leader of the opposition.

He urged the public to remain calm and feel confident that police, security services and the Government "are taking every possible step to ensure their safety and security of all our communities".

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine left a question-and-answer forum at Parliament House early last night as the drama unfolded.

The area was also the scene of an AFP raid on people who were linked to the Al Furqan centre, a religious instruction school, in 2012.

"My main concern is for the welfare of the officers involved," Mr Byrne said.

The MP told reporters in Canberra the attack was proof that lifting the terror threat level was justified, and is proved "this threat is real".

"It shows why we need to remain vigilant to keep our community safe," he said.

Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus said the incident was "very concerning".

The homicide squad will investigate on behalf of the State Coroner, with the police Professional Standard Commands to oversee the investigation.

The dirty way shops make you pay

Shoppers might think lowest price means a bargain but they need to check the fine print when it comes to getting the wallet out. Source: News Limited

YOU may think you're getting a good deal with a price promise but as it turns out you may actually be paying more than you bargained for.

Retailers are using price promises to lure unwitting shoppers into snaring what they think is a bargain but is actually anything but.

An investigation by Choice has found consumers end up spending more than they think after falling for slogans such as "lowest price, best price" and "price match".

Choice spokesman Tom Godfrey said Choice found, in most stores, that a lowest or best price guarantee did not necessarily equal a bargain.

Instead he said they often meant consumers were left to grapple with tricky terms and exclusions only to end up paying more at the check out.

"While most retailers will quite understandably exclude liquidation and clearance items from price match guarantees, others back you out of a bargain by adding location requirements such as the cheaper offer needing to be within 10 kilometres of their store," he said.

"Once they get you in store retailers often greet you with fancy fine print as they seek to beat down a potential bargain."

According to Choice, Retravision Online had one of the broadest disclaimers which claim to beat any advertised competitor price.

But Choice found the fine print revealed a different scenario and states: "in some cases there are prices which Retravision Online cannot match. In these cases we will offer you the best possible price that we can."

Some of the price promises Choice investigated. Picture: Choice Source: Supplied

"The problem is that customers are selecting particular stores who make impressive sounding price promises with the expectation of receiving the lowest price, only to find the process isn't that simple and the price isn't that great," Mr Godfrey said.

Choice also looked at the "lowest" or "best price" guarantees offered by department stores, hardware stores and electrical retailers including Bing Lee, Chemist Warehouse, Harvey Norman, Officeworks and Toys 'R Us.

But according to them, consumers who relied on these prices risked paying more in the long run.

"If you assume Chemist Warehouse's price beat promise means they'll always have the best prices, for some popular products you're going to be disappointed," Mr Godfrey said.

For instance, the Choice investigation revealed that while Chemist Warehouse tries to convince consumers to "stop paying too much", consumers who brought Rimmel BB Cream Matte from their website could end up paying 70 per cent more than if they brought the same product from competitor Priceline.

In another example, Choice found Toys 'R Us claimed that its prices couldn't be beaten but a Target Razor Power Rider 360 cost 20 per cent more from them than if the same product was purchased at Target.

Mr Godfrey said the lesson was for consumers to read the fine print and not be afraid to question a price promise.

"We found lowest-price guarantees do not guarantee the lowest price and companies should be more transparent," he said.

"Price guarantees can also discourage consumers from seeking out lower prices and this ultimately leads to higher prices and consumer detriment."

Choice said it paid for consumers to shop around and not to rely on price matching claims.

It also paid for consumers to check the terms and conditions and to have any documentation necessary with them so retailers could not refuse to price match.

Oil’s first family turns its back on fossil fuels

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 23 September 2014 | 14.41

JD Rockefeller was at one point, the world's richest man. Source: AP

THE Rockefellers, the first family of oil, are divesting from fossil fuels in a fresh boost for the fight against climate change ahead of a UN summit.

Britain also pledged new aid to tackle deforestation, a key contributor to climate change, a day after tens of thousands marched around the world to urge world leaders to do more to address the environmental crisis.

In an announcement timed a day ahead of the climate summit, an alliance of private institutions, individuals and local governments with a total of more than $US50 billion ($A54.1 billion) of assets announced in New York that they were divesting from fossil fuels.

Among them was the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, an $US840 million endowment run by John D. Rockefeller's descendants, which said it would reduce exposure to fossil fuels as much as possible and end all investments in coal and tar sands — two of the dirtiest forms of energy — by the end of the year.

John D. Rockefeller was once the world's wealthiest person as the founder of Standard Oil — whose descendant, ExxonMobil, is a frequent foe of climate initiatives.

"We can no longer continue feeding our addiction to fossil fuels as if there is no tomorrow, for there will be no tomorrow," South Africa's anti-apartheid icon Desmond Tutu said as he welcomed the announcement in a video message.

While the divestment is small compared with the vast size of the fossil fuel industry, campaigners hailed the announcement, which came a day before world leaders including US President Barack Obama hold a summit on climate change at the UN.

"Climate change is the defining issue of our time. Now is the time for action," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told a conference with business leaders.

Apple chief Tim Cook, days after launching the iPhone 6, travelled to New York to pledge that the tech giant would prioritise low-carbon growth.

"We have to look at ourselves and ask ourselves — are we going to be the first generation that leaves the next one worse off?" Cook said.

THE Philippines' biggest mall operator has been forced to pull a T-shirt from its shelves that made fun of rape, following social media outrage.

A photo of the dark blue T-shirt with the slogan: "It's not rape. It's a snuggle with a struggle", was posted by writer Karen Kunawicz on her Facebook page on Monday and quickly went viral.

SM Supermalls said in a statement the message on the T-shirt was "unacceptable", and that it only found out about it through social media.

They posted this message on Facebook.

"We have immediately pulled out all the T-shirts of the consignor that distributes them," it said in a statement.

"Appropriate action will be taken to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for informing us." SM Supermalls, owned by the Philippines' richest man Henry Sy, operates 46 malls locally and has expanded to China.

Kunawicz's Facebook photo of the T-shirt, which was displayed in the teen boys' section, was shared almost 3,000 times and liked by close to 1,000 people.

"I'm angry not just with SM but with the group of idiots that envisioned and actually produced this," one Facebook user said in a comment to Kunawicz's post.

"A big company has an even bigger social responsibility to control what goes through their stores," another person on Facebook said in a separate comment.

Twitter user @Photoworldmanila said: "If you are a woman, you will be disgusted with #SM." SM Supermalls said it was investigating how the shirt got into its inventory.

Others posted their concerns:

A WOMAN has spent $20,000 on surgery to get a third breast and her dream is to become a celebrity.

The Florida massage therapist, who calls herself Jasmine Tridevil, said she had the surgery a few months ago.

"It was really hard finding someone that would do it, too, because they're breaking the code of ethics," Tridevil told Real Radio 104.1.

"I called like 50 or 60 doctors, nobody wanted to do it."

Last month she posted a YouTube video of herself in a bikini while Radiohead's Creep plays in the background.

Tridevil said her extra breast felt like her other breasts, "the only difference is the nipple", which she had to get tattooed on.

The 21-year-old saved up for two years so she could have the surgery and is also paying for a film crew to follow her around.

"My whole dream is to get this show on MTV," she said.

"I'm dumping every penny I have into this. If this doesn't work, I'm through."

Tridevil said that while she wanted fame and fortune, this was not why she had the surgery.

"I got it because I wanted to make myself unattractive to men. Because I don't want to date anymore," she said.

She has been filmed telling her parents about the third boob and they were not happy.

"My mum ran out the door. She won't talk to me. She won't let my sister talk to me. My dad ... he really isn't happy ... he is kind of ashamed of me but he accepted it," she said.

While some have criticised Tridevil for her chasing fame, others have described her as "beautiful" and commented that she reminds them of the girl in the sci fi film Total Recall.

"I love boobs, you have three, what's not to like ... we all loved that girl in Total Recall, now your (sic) the real deal," said one follower on her Facebook page.

Syrian air strikes kill 42 people

SYRIAN government air strikes killed at least 42 people, including 16 children, in Idlib province in the northwest, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The air raids on Sunday afternoon and evening killed 19 people, including six children, outside the city of Saraqeb, and another 23 people, among them 10 children, in the town of Ehsim, the monitoring group said.

The province is largely under rebel control outside its capital, Idlib city. The strikes outside Saraqeb hit an area where civilians were sheltering after fleeing repeated government air strikes on the city, the Observatory said.

Footage of the aftermath of the attack in Ehsim posted on YouTube by activists showed desperate civilians trying to dig out a man buried up to his neck in the rubble of a collapsed building.

Another video showed the lifeless body of a child, naked and covered in grey dust, lying on top of shattered breeze blocks.

Young men recovered the body and carried it away in a black shroud, shouting "God is greater."

Lambie’s law: ‘Sharia is terrorism’

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 21 September 2014 | 14.41

Senator Jacqui Lambie has again called for followers and adherents of sharia law to leave the country.

SHE claims she doesn't have a problem with Muslims, but Jacqui Lambie is still refusing to back away from her call for Sharia law supporters to get out of Australia.

The outspoken Palmer United Party Senator believes the Islamic legal system "obviously involves terrorism" and its followers need to instead follow Australian law "100 per cent".

"If you are not going to show your allegiance to our constitution and to Australian law, then get out," she told ABC's Insiders program this morning

She is also sticking by her push to ban the burqa headdress, arguing it is a security risk.

"I believe it is a national security issue," she said.

"It is just like anything else, it is like a motorbike helmet. It's like a balaclava. I will not allow you to wear that into my office because it is a security risk."

People should be able to show their faces and "they shouldn't feel that they need to be oppressed, to be able to hide their faces," she said.

"I think that's the way for the future of Australia."

While denying she has a "problem with Muslims", the Senator defended her decision to post a photo online of the first female police officer in Kandahar who was murdered by the Taliban, while calling for the headdress to be banned.

The Senator has been criticised for sharing the image on her Facebook page, originally posted by the far right group Britain First.

"What I was showing people is how heroic she was," she claimed of the picture of Malalai Kakar, shown wearing a burqa and holding a gun.

"I am choosing this woman because she is a bloody hero. What she done was extremely heroic and she should always be remembered for that."

Senator Lambie also said she "absolutely" stood by her call for Sharia law supporters to pack their bags and leave Australia.

When asked what she understands Sharia law to mean, the PUP Senator said it "obviously involves terrorism".

"It involves a power that is not a healthy power."

You can't follow both Sharia law and Australian law, she claimed.

"You can't have 50-50."

"You are saying, though, if they follow their faith, they have no place in Australia?" Barry Cassidy asked.

"That's what I'm saying, yes. If you are an extremist towards Sharia law, you have no place in Australia," Senator Lambie responded.

The former soldier said the government was"heading in the right direction" tackling the issue of terrorism at home.

"It needs to go in hard and fast."

The Coalition will have her support for legislation to beef up counter-terror laws, to be debated this week.

"They can certainly rely on me," she said.

What created this strange spiral?

The spiral-shaped crop circle was spotted by an eagle-eyed historian. Source: Supplied

A MYSTERIOUS crop circle has been spotted in a tiny English hamlet founded by medieval order the Knights Templar.

The spiral-shaped pattern carved into the ground near Coventry, West Midlands, was noticed by a historian researching the fabled military group.

The hamlet of Temple Balsall was part of the land the knights obtained as rewards for great acts of bravery in the Holy Land Crusades across Europe.

It became their headquarters more than 1000 years ago.

Bizarrely, another intricate crop circle appeared in the same area in 2011, less than a kilometre away from the latest find.

Chris McCauley, who made the discovery, told the Coventry Telegraph: "I was looking at Temple Balsall trying to locate the hall of the Knights Templar.

"I was looking at the map and noticed something quite distinctive in the landscape; it appears to be some kind of spiral."

He looked online to find out what it was, but could only find the story of the other local crop circle from 2011.

"Since I was unable to find any record of this marking, and the fact that it hasn't even been acknowledged or reported as a crop circle, I can only hope that this may be a genuine undiscovered archaeological feature."

The 2011 pattern depicts an eight and 16-pointed star around a central sun, alongside pyramids and oval-shaped 'helmets'."

Many believe it has spiritual, scientific or religious meaning, with 16 being the number of karma in the Bible, and eight the symbol of infinity.

When it was discovered, locals said police had banned people from visiting the field, near an old RAF base, and that internet posts about the circle were mysteriously deleted.

WHAT ARE CROP CIRCLES?

Crop circles are flattened patches of grain such as wheat, barley and maize that appear without explanation.

They can simply be circles, or can appear in complex geometric patterns.

The earliest mention of a crop circle dates back to the 1500s. A woodcut from the time showed a "mowing devil" making the pattern.

Conspiracy theorists believe crop circles are created by aliens, while scientists say most are probably man-made.

Some crop circles may also be caused by freak weather or by animals. In 2009, Wallabies were found breaking into Tasmanian poppy fields and creating "crop circles" as they jumped around.

The term was coined in the late 70s after a series of pranks by Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, who said they were inspired by the Tully "saucer nest" case in Australia, where a farmer found a flattened circle of swamp reeds after observing a UFO.

Missing boy’s family: ‘Thank you’

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 20 September 2014 | 14.41

THE family of three-year-old William Tyrell have issued a heart-felt "thank you" as the search continues for the missing boy.

William vanished on September 12 and was last seen wearing a Spiderman costume at his grandmother's Kendall home, on the NSW mid north coast.

Searching continued today in the Middle Brother area, 45km south of Port Macquarie, involving about 70 searchers.

Statement from William Tyrell's family

William is only three years and three-months-old and really still a baby, he has so many more years to live and we desperately want him home. William up until a month ago was obsessed with all things Fire Engine and would tell us his name was "Firefighter William"… a future he deserves to fulfil.

To the residents of Benaroon Drive: Within minutes of hearing that William was missing everyone came out and helped with the search, we were amazed at how quickly you came to help. Thank you. We would also like to say a big thank you for your patience and co-operation with Police in the search for little William.

To the Police: As well as William loving all things Fire Engines and Fire Fighters he was also enamoured by the Police and he would have been beside himself to see the amount of Police Cars and Police officers at Nana's house. And also, like all little boys, he would have been asking you about your guns! We know how hard you have all been working – your dedication to finding little William has astounded us and we, from the bottom of our hearts, say "thank you so much"; it has given us strength and hope that William will be returned to us soon. We also want to thank those of you who we have got to know for your personal support and commitment to the search for William.

To the SES: We have seen you day and night searching for William; even when we couldn't sleep at 3am we saw you walking around with torches and driving the cars. We thank you deeply and we know that for each and every one of you "it's more than just a job".

To the Surf Life Saving & RFS: Thank you for taking the time away from your families and your other volunteering efforts.

To the Kendall community: You are amazing, every day we would hear how many volunteers had shown up at the showground and every day the numbers got bigger. People had taken time off work, we saw a lady pushing a pram and holding a baby on her front walking looking for William, we saw a man walking his push bike looking for William, and we saw everyday people just like us in the bush and on the road looking for our little boy. And every day – all through the day – people were dropping off food and drinks to support the searchers.

Thank you so much! You should feel very proud of yourselves and the community.

Finally we wish to reinforce that if anyone has seen or heard anything (no matter how insignificant it may be) to contact the Police.

We pray and hope that our "firefighter William" comes home soon.

Aussie pilot dies in plane crash

A plane crash ... involving a Hevilift aircraft has occurred in Papua New Guinea. Source: Supplied

THREE people have died including an Australian pilot, and five people have survived a plane crash near Papua New Guinea's capital, an investigator says.

The Hevilift flight had eight people on board when it crashed into terrain about 7km south of the PNG Defence Force Supply and Ordinance Barracks at Goldie, near Port Moresby.

It has been reported that the pilot was Australian but this has not been confirmed by authorities.

However, PNG Accident Investigation Commission's William Seneka said the pilot, female first officer and a passenger suffered fatal injuries.

Earlier reports stated four people had died including both pilots and two passengers.

He said the bodies had been airlifted from the crash scene to Port Moresby.

Five people survived, he added.

"Our crews are onsite and they are going though the wreck and undertaking the site investigation at this stage," he told AAP.

Mr Seneka said the first officer was a woman who had been with the airline for a year while the pilot, believed to be an expatriate, was very experienced.

Mr Seneka said the cause of the fatal crash was still unknown but at this stage there are not any issues with the aircraft or the crew.

"The weather is a bit of a factor here," he said.

"There was low cloud in the area."

The twin otter aircraft was travelling from Woitape to Port Moresby.

PNG-based missionary Brother Matt Allen took to Twitter calling for people to: "Pray for my friends."
