SUMMER is almost upon us, which means it's time to start getting out the shorts and unpacking the kaftans.
At the newly-opened Macquarie Centre this morning, a dozen SS15 trends were paraded down the runway from the likes of Alice McCall, Gorman, Zara and Saba, all of whom have opened stores in the $440 million redevelopment.
White, black and pastels dominated, and according to David Jones ambassador Jessica Gomes, trends to watch are "white on white, trouser and top combos and anything low key and relaxed.
"One of the joys of spring summer fashion is that anything goes — tons of pastels, lots of florals, animal prints, any kind of pattern really," she told news.com.au while dressed in a pretty smashing pastel orange Finders Keepers number.
If you're trying to save your pennies but are still feeling that all-too-familiar new season buying itch, don't worry: here is the perfect dress.
The simply named Knee-length dress from H&M is all you need to buy this summer. It draws in at the waist making it flattering for many shapes; has perfectly placed pockets so your hands will have a home; and the fabric feels a little fancier than a light cotton number.

Black and white is everything this Summer. On the Macquarie Centre runway this morning and indeed on every runway of late, black and white dominates, as do loose, flowing garments that finish mid-calf. Patterns are also huge for SS15, and this dress encapsulates all of that in one.
2. You can dress it up or down
Add a bright orange belt and some heels for night time, or some strappy sandals and a wide-brimmed hat for the day.
