VIDEO has emerged of young lovers Heather Mack and Tommy Schaefer partying at a luxury hotel three weeks before the pair may have killed Mack's mother at a Bali resort.

Sheila von Wiese-Mack's battered body was found stuffed inside a bloodsoaked suitcase in the boot of a taxi outside the St Regis hotel, a five-star resort in high-end Nusa Dua, on Tuesday.

The 62-year-old Chicago-based academic was half naked with wounds to the head and appeared to have put up a struggle, suffering several broken fingers, a local doctor said.

Mack, 19 and Schaefer, 21, a self-described rapper, fled the hotel via a back entrance after Mrs Von Wiese-Mack's body was discovered. The couple were arrested after police found them sleeping at a hotel in Kuta on Wednesday and have been in custody ever since.

Just three weeks earlier, Mrs Von Wiese-Mack had called police on the couple after her credit card company rang to query a charge for a room at the Conrad Chicago Hotel that she had not made herself.

Officers arrived at the hotel and found Mack, Schaeffer and seven others partying in an eighth floor room, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

This morning, grainy footage purporting to have been taken that night was posted to YouTube.

News.com.au could not confirm who had uploaded the video but it appeared to have been taken with a mobile phone.

Police arrested Schaefer on suspicion of disorderly conduct, after he "began getting loud and waving arms," according to a police report of the incident, the Sun-Times said.

At the time of his arrest, Shaefer was wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan "I RUN THE WORLD".

The Sun-Times said Schaefer had a misdemeanour conviction for simple assault after getting into a scuffle with a restaurant worker outside a Chicago eaterie in 2012.

"I am going to kick your f***ing a**," Schaefer allegedly told the employee, according to the arrest report.

Ms Wiese-Mack and her daughter's troubled relationship has been extensively reported since the murder.

An Oak Park Police Department spokesman confirmed officers had been called to the Von Wiese-Mack household 86 times between January 2004 and June 2013, most of them relating to domestic violence and missing persons incidents.

A neighbour has spoken of constant screaming matches at the home, and that the mother and daughter would regularly call the police on each other. The fighting would sometimes result inphysical injuries, the neighbour said.

Mack, the daughter of acclaimed jazz and classical musician and composer James L Mack, was reportedly in and out of psychiatric treatment and known to suffer from psychotic episodes.

The Sun-Times reported a similar situation at a home where Schaefer previously lived with his mother, also in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park.

Former landlord Paul Kreiss said the woman he rented to had a son who caused a lot of problems. Police had to be called to the home from time to time, Kreiss said, and beer cans sometimes littered the yard.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Mrs Von Weise-Mack had an argument with her daughter and Schaefer over a hotel bill just hours before her body was found.

According to a staff, Mrs von Weise-Mack was heard telling her daughter, "I've paid for his flight here, so the two of you should pay for the hotel".

The couple, who have not yet been charged, have blamed the murder on a gang of robbers they say confronted them at the resort.
