SPOILER WARNING: Another wedding, another shocking Game of Thrones episode.

JAIME Lannister is easily the most confusing character in Game of Thrones.

On the one hand, he's committed terrible atrocities. The guy pushed a 10-year-old boy off a tower. He murdered his cousin to escape from a prison cell. In last week's episode, he raped his sister next to the body of their dead son.

But there are unambiguously heroic deeds on Jaime's resume as well, such as the time he leapt in front of an angry bear to save Brienne. Moments like that have made him one of the show's most popular and endearing characters.

Jaime is arrogant and selfconscious at the same time. He's completely ruthless, but unfailingly loyal. The man obviously has a moral compass, but sometimes it goes haywire, and then we don't know what the hell to think of him.

Enough confusion. I've decided to settle the matter of Jamie's morality right now, because shades of grey and the subtleties of character development are obviously lost on me.

You have to hand it to Jaime ... he's quite a character. Source: Supplied

To that end, I cast my mind back through the 34 Game of Thrones episodes we've already seen and picked out all of Jaime's obviously good or bad deeds.

MORE: The episode that shocked millions

According to this comprehensive and entirely infallible analysis, Jaime managed to make it through the entire second season without performing a single good deed of any note. But a late surge of morality in the early episodes of season four, one bizarre and distressing rape scene notwithstanding, made all the difference.

By my final count, Jaime has performed 13 good deeds and 12 bad deeds throughout the series. You can see how I reached that conclusion below.

As a result, I can now say with unshakable confidence that, deep down, Jaime is one of the good guys. And you can take that to the Iron Bank of Braavos.

NOTE: I'm judging Jaime as he's portrayed in the TV show, not the books. Yes, he's different in A Song of Ice and Fire. Yes, that scene in the Sept changed. Let's keep book Jaime out of this.

JAIME'S GOOD DEEDS

• S01E01 — Brings Tyrion some prostitutes. Sure, that seems like a pretty shady thing to do, but the guy's trying to be nice to his brother. Give him some credit;

• S01E04 — Dutifully guards Robert's chamber while the king loudly "entertains" some women;

• S01E05 — Confronts Ned after learning of Tyrion's capture, showing how much he cares about his little bro;

• S01E05 — Gets annoyed at one of his men for stabbing Ned through the leg and finishing their fight dishonourably. Lets Ned live;

• S03E03 — Lies to Locke, telling him Brienne's father will pay him a ransom of sapphires if Brienne remains unharmed. In the process, he saves her from being raped;

• S03E07 — Thanks Brienne for keeping him alive and promises to return the Stark girls to their mother;

• S03E07 — Forces Roose Bolton's men to take him back to Harrenhal, where he finds Brienne facing off against a bear. He leaps into the pit, distracting the bear and saving her life, before insisting she accompany him to King's Landing;

• S04E01 — Refuses to resign from the Kingsguard, instead choosing to uphold his oath;

• S04E02 — Is the first person to rush to Joffrey's aid when he starts choking at the wedding feast. Yes, Joffrey's death is a good thing, but the kid is Jaime's son for R'hllor's sake;

• S04E03 — Refuses to kill Tyrion on Cersei's behalf, believing his brother to be innocent;

• S04E04 — Visits Tyrion in his cell and offers to help him;

• S04E04 — Tries to tell Cersei that Tyrion is innocent, admittedly without much success;

• S04E04 — Gives Brienne his Valyrian steel sword, along with a new set of armour. He tells her to find and protect Sansa, and sends Podrick with her, potentially saving the young man's life.

TOTAL — 13 GOOD DEEDS

JAIME'S BAD DEEDS

• S01E01 — Has sex with his sister at the top of a tower;

• S01E01 — Pushes a 10-year-old boy out the window of said tower, because the boy caught him having sex with, I repeat, his sister;

• S01E02 — Makes fun of Jon Snow, who is about to join the Night's Watch and is already pretty depressed;

• S01E03 — Comforts Cersei, who is worried about the whole incest thing being discovered, by telling her he's willing to kill a bunch of people;

• S01E05 — Has Ned's guards killed, and stabs Jory Cassel through the eye;

• S01E10 — Taunts Catelyn Stark over the death of her husband, Ned. Too soon man;

• S02E07 — Murders his cousin, Alton Lannister, and a guard, Torrhen Karstark, during an attempt to escape from captivity;

• S02E07 — Taunts Catelyn again, this time over Ned's apparent infidelity. Not too soon, but still kind of insensitive;

• S02E08 — Repeatedly insults Brienne in an effort to provoke her;

• S03E02 — Urges Brienne to kill a farmer who noticed them travelling through the Riverlands;

• S03E02 — Steals a sword from Brienne and duels her on a bridge, leading to their capture at the hands of Locke;

• S04E03 — Rapes Cersei alongside Joffrey's corpse in the Great Sept of Baelor.

TOTAL — 12 BAD DEEDS
