A NEW mother died only hours after giving birth to quadruplets without ever getting chance to see or hold her babies.
For Carlos Morales his happiness at finding himself the proud father of four infants turned quickly to tragedy when his wife Erica passed away following the delivery at Banner Good Samaritan hospital in Phoenix.
"She was fine, and then she wasn't. She was alive and then she was just gone," he has told PEOPLE magazine in a new interview.
"I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life," Carlos says. "My four babies came into the world and then my wife died."
Two of the quads, Carlos Jr. and Tracey, are already home; Paisley and Erica are still in the hospital. Carlos goes to visit them every day while his mother-in-law cares for the babies at home. At the hospital, Carlos is also a student, paying close attention in the free baby-care classes it offers.
"I'm learning everything from how to give them a bath, CPR, feeding, and how to manage their sleep schedule," he says. "I need to be prepared."
"Everything I do now is for my children," Carlos says. "Our family and friends have been very supportive too."

Local Fox News 10 reported that 36-year-old Erica was admitted to hospital a month before her due date. She gave birth to three girls and a boy but sadly she went into hypovolemic shock, an emergency condition where one experiences a severe amount of blood loss, and died a short time later.
"She never got to hold them, she never got to see them," Nicole Todman, Erica's cousin, told the TV station. "It is so hard to know she fought so hard for her children. She will never get to brush their hair, hold their hand, watch them get married, none of that will ever happen for her."
Ms Todman has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Mr Morales, who now faces raising the four children alone.

On the page she wrote: "The expense of raising 4 children alone is quite daunting for any middle class family now the with the loss of Erica's income her husband will need all the help he can get.
"This is an extremely emotional time, Erica's passing is tramatic (sic) and my goal is to help ease the financial worry as much as possible so every dollar helps if it's $1 or $1000 it will all be used to provide for the beautiful babies Erica fought so hard to have and in the end gave her life for."
The page has been shared more than 27,000 times and had raised over $252,000 at time of publication. The family had hoped to raise $50,000.
