AS severe tropical cyclone Marcia lashes the Queensland coast, people in the warning zone are taking to social media.

The category 5 storm, which has now been downgraded to a category 4, is impacting a large area of the coast with winds close to 300km/h in some areas today.

The cyclone warning zone extends from Sarina in the north, south to Double Island Point, with severe weather warnings extending to New South Wales.
