Thunderstorms have left a trail of damage across south-east Queensland at the beginning of whats expected to be a week of wild weather.
QUEENSLANDERS are being warned to brace for a potentially serious thunderstorm tonight.
Just weeks after the last massive storm that caused hundreds of millions in damage, the weather bureau is warning of severe thunderstorms that could bring damaging winds and very heavy rain.
Wind gusts of up to 80km/h have already been recorded as the storm heads south towards the Brisbane metro area and then the Gold Coast.
It was possible there would be small hail bigger than 2cm in Brisbane and forecasters could not rule out flash flooding.
A number of Christmas activities planned for central Brisbane tonight have already been cancelled.
The worst of the weather is expected very soon in Brisbane and by 6pm on the Gold Coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology's Robert Wood told the Courier-Mail the winds were "already quite strong".
"The Coast should be hit by heavy rain and gale force winds between 5-6pm."
