JOAN Rivers may no longer be with us, but a sassy anonymous Australian woman — who calls herself 'Fashion Critical' — is filling the void with her razor-tongued red carpet fashion commentary.

The Fashion Critical Facebook page was set up in 2011 and recently gained thousands of new fans after a wrap-up of the Brownlow and Dally M Awards red carpets was shared hundreds of times.

No celebrity — no matter how famous — is off limits.

Angelina Jolie is compared to a garbage bag. Julia Roberts is likened to Gumby and John Travolta's beard described as "foul" - "Someone has taken a black Sharpie and coloured in John's head and face. It makes me SICK".

When Emma Watson wore pants under a red gown to the Golden Globe Awards, Fashion Critical instructed Watson to take her "fashion forwardism back to the Harry Potter School of Tryhardery".

"It looks a bit like she has a spew rag down the front of her dress," was her snarky critique of Cate Blanchett's pink Givenchy gown at the SAG Awards.

Fashion Critical won't reveal her real identity ("Does Clark Kent tell people he's Superman? HELL NO!") and says she does not work in the fashion industry.

She says critics of her snarky style — who she refers to as "bongas" — need to "lighten up".

"[The Facebook page] is a way to transcribe the thoughts we all have as we sit in our ivory towers and critique celeb outfits on the red carpet," she told news.com.au.

"It's that devilish inner voice that all girls have when they're kicking back on the couch watching the red carpet fashions on parade, except I'm saying it out loud. It's shocking and totally politically incorrect."

Fashion Critical's 5,800 Facebook fans flood her page with requests for her to review certain outfits or awards shows and are breathless in their praise: "I'm literally crying with laughter", one fan commented. "I love Fashion Critical and don't care who you really are — just keep it coming!" wrote another.

"People message me and tell me that they spat their coffee out from laughing so hard at work," Fashion Critical said. "That they squealed hysterically while checking an album on the bus. That they were having a sh***y day and then got to sit back and have a good old belly laugh. I hear way more of those comments than the bad ones."

"The world is a sad, sad place. There are terrible things happening every day that nobody seems to want to talk about too much. People dying by the thousands from Ebola. A constantly growing number of refugees just terrified enough to risk their lives on a leaky boat. Terrorism. Children disappearing. My suggestion would be to go and fight a real battle and let people have some light hearted fun giggling at red carpet fashion."
