THERE'S a reason celebrities such as Beyonce and Bieber like to holiday on boats.
In fact, there are several reasons.
I recently spent three days sailing around the Whitsundays in Queensland and I'm now convinced that holidaying on water is better than holidaying on land.
Here are some reasons why (which were hastily written in between cocktails on a Sunsail boat):
View: Ever walked into your hotel room to discover the view isn't quite what you were hoping for? You wanted to be overlooking a pool or some rolling hills, but instead when you look out your window all you can see is some chubby tourist on the balcony opposite yours applying after-sun gel to his blistering red body.
This problem is eliminated when you holiday on the water. If you're sailing around and you don't like the view, you can simply pull up the anchor and move to a completely different location.
Water holiday = 1 / Land holiday = 0
Travel buddies: Ever been on a holiday with a friend and realised halfway through that you absolutely despise them? It's a nightmare, but at least you can part ways immediately and head to the local bar to make new acquaintances.
If you're on a boat and you come to the same realisation, you're in real strife. Dead Calm anyone?

Pool: One of the most exciting things about staying in resorts is swimming in the extravagant pools. But there are lots of people swimming around you. And lots of kids splashing around. And then there's that mysterious warm spot that appears every now and then.
If you choose to holiday on the water, the ocean is your swimming pool. You've got more room than you could ever dream of. Plus, there's the added bonus of seeing some pretty spectacular things under the water, from dolphins to coral reefs.
Water holiday = 2 / Land holiday = 1
Skipper: Occasionally there's a really attractive person working behind the front desk at a hotel. Occasionally. It's pretty rare though that you see a cleaner or a member of the maintenance crew walking around and think to yourself, "What a stunner".
But on a boat you get a skipper. And skipper's are often buff. They're bronzed. And they're buff.

Food: One of the highlights of every holiday is the food. If you holiday on land you can try different restaurants, you can sample food stalls or you can even enrol in a cooking class and learn how to make some local delicacies.
If you're on a boat, your options are slightly more limited but that doesn't mean you're going to miss out on amazing food. You can literally catch your own dinner or you can order catering from companies such as Whitsunday Provisions who will load you up with a kitchen full of goodies to keep you satisfied during your adventure.
Water holiday = 4 / Land holiday = 2 (both get a point)
Motion in the ocean: The good thing about holidaying on land is that it doesn't move. If you're on a boat though and you're susceptible to seasickness, I'm afraid that's going to put a real damper on your holiday. Spewing.
Water holiday = 4 / Land holiday = 3
Puns: When you're on a sailing holiday, there's an endless supply of puns at your disposal. You simply mast seas the day and use them during your trip. More often than knot you'll be able to think of at least one and you'll be able to take a bow. And if people say they're bad, well ... don't let the haters knock the wind out of your sails. Oh buoy ...
