GOLDEN girl Cate Blanchett has won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Blue Jasmine at the 86th annual Academy Awards.
Blanchett urged producers to make more films with women as the lead during her heartfelt acceptance speech, also thanking director Woody Allen "for casting me".
Other big winners on the night were Matthew McConaughey for his role in Dallas Buyer's Club while the Brad Pitt-produced film 12 Years A Slave won the Oscar for Best Picture.
Host Ellen DeGeneres dished out the jokes, transforming the night into one of the most enjoyable awards ceremonies in recent memory.
