A CHANNEL Nine reporter has been manhandled during a cross to the newsroom while covering Kevin Rudd's campaign in Queensland.

Veteran camera man Mark Jessop dropped his equipment to rescue reporter Kerrie Yaxley as she reported on the Prime Minister's visit to Mackay.

The attacker grabbed Ms Yaxley and kissed her cheek as she maintained her professionalism and continued to report on the campaign events.

Mr Jessop downed his equipment to ward off the attacker.

A shaken but unhurt Ms Yaxley said she was OK after Mr Jessop stepped in to stop the attack at 5pm.

The incident came after a pervert had dropped his shorts as ABC 24 reporter Andrew Greene was about to do a live cross.

And another female radio reporter was also targeted by the man who had exposed his genitals to her.

The man is believed to have been part of a Mad Monday football celebration in Mackay, where Mr Rudd has launched the campaign of Labor's Dawson candidate Bronwyn Taha.

Mr Rudd, his wife Therese Rein, their daughter Jessica and granddaughter Josephine were at a cafe in the next block when the incident happened.

He is due to fly to Townsville to continue his campaign.
