TABLOID TV program A Current Affair is under siege over a report aired on Wednesday where they alleged Asian retailers were taking over a local shopping mall in Sydney's north west.

The report has been slammed as racist and wrong by local businesses and residents, and thousands of people on Twitter.

The story alleged that the Asian retailers were 'kicking out' Australian store owners, and ran quotes from 'concerned citizens' who felt it would be an 'Asian invasion'.

They also spoke with Pauline Hanson, who talked about being 'swamped by Asians' in her maiden speech in Parliament, and still holds the view that "this (more Asian retailers) would never be allowed in any other country".

Local paper, The Hills Shire Times spoke to retailers in Castle Mall who were angered about the ACA story, which misrepresented Castle Hill as a racist and xenophobic suburb.

Yesterday the paper reported that the original ACA story was wrong when it declared that Australian retailers are being kicked out of the centre to make way for Asian retailers.

Livio and Frankie Leuzzi from ground floor retailer Next Generation for Hair, said their phone had been running hot with regulars calling to ask whether they'd been kicked out of the centre.

"They got the impression from the story that all the non-Asian retailers in the centre had been kicked out," Livio said.

"I thought the report made Castle Hill look racist, when it's not. In the report they said the retailers didn't want to speak to A Current Affair, but they never asked us. We would've been happy to speak."

Matthew Wright from Shelton's Quality Meats said that while he was concerned about having competition from the new MD Meat store, he didn't care whether the new stores were Asian or not.

"There have been Asian shopkeepers in this centre for a long time. From the bread store, to the Chinese medicine shop, to the florist."

"While I am concerned about competition from another butcher, I'm glad that this centre is finally getting a makeover.

"They also said in the report that my shop was being forced to move, which it isn't."

Readers have questioned the value in interviewing Ms Hanson, a renowned critic of Asian migration and a Queensland resident.

It is understood that A Current Affair producers have decided to return to Castle Hill to conduct vox pop interviews after a follow-up following a barrage of criticism and complaints from viewers.
