A NEWBORN baby girl was set on fire in the middle of a road near Philadelphia. She later died.

Now a New Jersey woman, believed to be the mother of the child, has been charged with murder.

Burlington County prosecutors said Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Pemberton Township was jailed on $500,000 bail.

It wasn't known if she has retained a lawyer.

Police responded to a Friday night call about a fire in the middle of a residential road in the township, about 50 kilometers east of Philadelphia.

Officers found the baby in flames and put out the fire.

The child reportedly was alive and breathing at the time she was flown to a hospital in Philadelphia, said Joel Bewley, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

She died about two hours later, he said in a news release. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Authorities believe the mother doused her baby with an accelerant then set her on fire, Bewley said. They do not have a motive. The woman was taken into custody Friday night.

Prosecutor Robert Bernardi said details of the baby's birth were still being investigated. The baby's age has not been disclosed. Bernardi would not comment on whether the mother has a criminal record or if she has been involved with child welfare officials.

Dave Joseph, 45, of Pemberton Township told The Burlington County Times that he saw a young woman get out of her car and light something on fire in the middle of Simontown Road. He said the woman told him she was burning dog waste.

Joseph said the woman appeared calm and soon tried to flee the scene, but residents stopped her.

"It was just mind-boggling," Joseph said. "It was a nightmare even if you have a strong heart."

Indonesia plans to execute the Bali Nine pair Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan together.

INDONESIA has put to death five foreigners and one local woman convicted of drugs offences, unleashing a diplomatic storm as Brazil and the Netherlands condemned the execution of their citizens.

The executions — the first under Indonesia's new President Joko Widodo — were carried out by firing squad on foreigners hailing from Brazil, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Malawi and Nigeria.

Indonesia has tough anti-drugs laws and Widodo, who took office in October, has disappointed rights activists by voicing strong support for capital punishment despite his image as a reformist.

The execution of the six death row inmates was "dreadful news", the federal opposition says as two of the Bali Nine face the same fate.

Labor leader Bill Shorten has repeated his call for clemency for Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Australian citizens who orchestrated a heroin smuggling operation in Indonesia in 2005. "It is dreadful news — I and Labor do not support the death penalty," Mr Shorten told reporters in Melbourne on Sunday.

"It is greatly concerning with the news overnight of the execution of six people, some of whom were foreign citizens.

"We will work with the (Abbott) government to make sure that clemency is extended to Australians who are facing this most dreadful prospect in the coming days and weeks." Indonesia executed six people by firing squad for drug-related crime - including five foreign nationals from Brazil, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Malawi and Nigeria.

A spokesman for Brazilian President Dilma Roussef said she was "distressed and outraged" after Indonesia defied her repeated pleas and put to death Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira, who was convicted of smuggling cocaine into Indonesia in 2004.

"Using the death penalty, which is increasingly rejected by the international community, seriously affects relations between our countries," the spokesman said in a statement.

Meanwhile Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said the Netherlands had temporarily recalled its ambassador to Indonesia over the execution of Dutchman Ang Kiem Soei, and described all six deaths as "terribly sad" in a statement.

"My heart goes out to their families, for whom this is marks a dramatic end to years of uncertainty," Koenders said. "The Netherlands remains opposed to the death penalty." Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Mark Rutte had been in contact with the Indonesian president on the matter, he said, and the government had done "all in its power" to attempt to halt the execution.

Five of the executed prisoners were shot dead by five firing squads of 12 paramilitary police at exactly the same time.

In chilling details, the group's last wishes and requests for what happens to their bodies have been detailed.

Families of the condemned were yesterday arriving at the Nusa Kambangan island jail where they were being held in isolation awaiting the time they will be taken from their cells, lined up, an apron with a reflector over their heart placed on them before they are shot dead at the same time by the firing squads.

They had been allowed to meet with their families and with their religious advisers, who were allowed to stay with them right up to the execution and witness it.

Dutch citizen Ang Kiem Soei asked that his body be cremated and handed over to his Dutch wife. The Vietnamese woman, Tran Thi, asked that her body be cremated and the ashes kept at the women's prison in Semarang where she has been held.

The other woman, Rani Indriani, asked to be buried beside her mother's grave in Cianjur.

Brazilian Archer Cardoso Moreira was arrested in 2003, after police at Jakarta airport found 13.4 kilograms (29.5 pounds) of cocaine hidden in his hang glider. A second Brazilian national, Rodrigo Muxfeldt Gularte, remains on death row in Indonesia, also convicted of drug trafficking.

Ang was arrested near Jakarta in 2003, after police found equipment which they estimated had been producing 15,000 ecstasy pills a day for three years. Police confiscated 8,000 pills and thousands of dollars.

The others who were executed were Namaona Denis, 48, from Malawi; Daniel Enemuo, 38, from Nigeria, and Indonesian Rani Andriani.

International outrage

Brazil's president was "distressed and outraged" after Indonesia defied her repeated pleas and executed one of her countrymen convicted of drug trafficking, a spokesman said Saturday.

"President Dilma Rousseff took note -- distressed and outraged -- at the execution of Brazilian Marco Archer in Indonesia today," a statement from the spokesman said of the execution, the first of a Brazilian overseas.

"President Dilma regrets deeply that this final request, made after several earlier ones, was not heeded by the Indonesian head of state," the Brazilian statement added.

Another last-minute apeal by the Dudge foreign minister also failed to change or delay the execution.

Amnesty International said the first executions under the new president, who took office in November, were "a retrograde step" for human rights.

Sukumaran's final bid

Meanwhile Myuran Sukumaran's Indonesian lawyer plans to lodge an application next week for a second judicial review of his case in a bid to have him spared the firing squad.

And yesterday renowned Australian artist Ben Quilty visited Sukumaran in Kerobokan jail as the last hours of the six other condemned drug traffickers ticked down before their executions today.

Mr Quilty is Sukumaran's friend and mentor and has taught him painting and conducted art classes in jail and is devastated by the latest news that the 33-year-old's clemency plea has been rejected by the Indonesian President.

His Indonesian lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis told News Corp Australia that he visited Sukumaran and fellow Bali Nine death row inmate Andrew Chan in Kerobokan jail in the past few days and now plans to lodge a case review next week.

Known in Indonesia as a PK, a judicial review is essentially an extraordinary appeal and generally requires new evidence to be heard. Sukumaran and Chan have both already lost their judicial review of their case.

And there is now uncertainty about whether or not a second judicial review is even allowed. A Government committee recently said only one PK was allowed but has yet to make a new regulation to that effect. Indonesia's two highest courts disagree on the issue.

Mr Lubis said he plans to lodge the PK application in the Denpasar District Court next week.

He said he would be submitting that there were errors of the application of law in the previous case review made by the Supreme Court.

"Thus I want to use the second PK as an attempt to fix it because in my opinion if we can fix that mistake, it will give justice," Mr Lubis said, adding that there should be no limit to uncovering the truth.

It will be submitted that in the 10 years that Sukumaran has been in prison, he has been rehabilitated, has set up rehabilitation programs inside the jail and helped scores of other prisoners to rehabilitate as well.

"If the purpose of any sentence is rehabilitation ... those who have made a significant change in their life should be given relief. It doesn't mean that he has to be freed because he has also admitted that he is guilty of a narcotic crime." Mr Lubis said.

"However, there are many forms of punishment. A life sentence or 20 years prison term or 25 years prison term. There are many forms of other punishment. I just want to ensure that the perspective of justice should be at the forefront," he said.

Sukumaran was told more than a week ago that his bid for Presidential clemency had been denied by the country's new President, Joko Widodo.

He and Chan have been on death row now since 2006 when they were convicted of their role in the so-called Bali Nine plot to smuggle 8.2kg of heroin from Bali to Sydney.

At the time that Sukumaran and other prisoners were learning their clemency had been rejected, a new hard line approach to drug traffickers on death row was being announced.

There would be no clemency and no compromise, the Government said, in announcing that five foreigners and one Indonesian would be executed today. The group is made up of four men and two women.

Five of them were shot dead by five firing squads of 12 paramilitary police at exactly the same time.

eBay crackdown on Qantas lounge

THERE'S not much better when travelling than being able to stroll into a Qantas lounge for a free coffee and a bowl of sliced fruit before boarding your flight home.

So much so that people have been purchasing the privilege on eBay.

Until now.

eBay is cracking down on vendors selling their free invitations to the Qantas Club, Business Lounge and the First Class Lounge saying it violates the site's terms and conditions.

In the past eBay has been awash with Qantas club passes selling for around $50 each while the first class lounge passes have typically sold for about $100. But over the past week eBay Australia has removed all listings for Qantas lounge passes, citing the company's policy on travel-related items which includes "guest passes to airline lounges" which are not allowed to be sold on the site.

eBay Australia Communications Manager Megan English told the Australian Business Traveler that the site's "filters capture a lot of these kinds of listings and they are removed."

The cards being sold are valid for one visit to a domestic Qantas Club lounge or a Qantas-operated international business lounge. The complimentary invitations are typically sent out in conjunction with Qantas credit card packages, annually to silver members of the Qantas frequent flyer scheme and at times, for compensation reasons.

While Qantas allows for the transfer of lounge passes to family members it is against their policy to sell them to a third party.

Despite Qantas' policy that the passes are not to be onsold, it is likely that vendors will flock to other sites in an effort to continue to do just that. At the time of writing there remains a handful of passes for sale on classifieds site, Gumtree, which was acquired by eBay in 2005.

Boy who came back from heaven ‘lied’

Alex Malarky whose tale of dying and going to heaven has admitted that he made the whole thing up

A BEST-selling account of a six-year-old boy's journey to heaven and back has been pulled after the boy retracted his story and admitted it was a lie.

Spokesman Todd Starowitz of Tyndale House, a leading Christian publisher, confirmed yesterday that Alex Malarkey's The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven: A Remarkable Account of Miracles, Angels, and Life Beyond This World was being withdrawn.

Earlier this week, Malarkey acknowledged in an open letter that he was lying, saying he had been seeking attention. He also regretted that "people had profited from lies".

"I did not die. I did not go to heaven," he wrote.

"When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough."

The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven was first published in 2010 and told of a 2004 auto accident that left Malarkey in a coma.

According to the book, co-written by Alex's father, Kevin Malarkey, he had visions of angels and of meeting Jesus.

In 2014, Tyndale reissued The Boy, which on the cover includes the billing "A True Story".

The facts of The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven have long been disputed in the Christian community, which has challenged reports of divine visions in Malarkey's book and other bestsellers such as Todd Burpo's Heaven Is for Real.

Last June, the southern Baptist Convention passed a resolution declaring "the sufficiency of biblical revelation over subjective experiential explanations to guide one's understanding of the truth about heaven and hell".

One of the leading critics has been Malarkey's mother, Beth.

In April 2014, she wrote a blog posting saying the book's success had been "both puzzling and painful to watch" and she believed Alex had been exploited.

"I could talk about how much it has hurt my son tremendously and even make financial statements public that would prove that he has not received moneys from the book nor have a majority of his needs been funded by it," she wrote.

"What I have walked through with Alex over the past nine years has nearly broken me personally and spiritually."

World’s weirdest way of saying ‘yes’

YOU would think "ja" would be an easy enough way to say "yes".

But in northern Sweden, citizens have simplified it even more.

Instead of a word, a quick intake of breath through pursed lips indicates the affirmative.

The bizarre practice can prove very confusing to outsiders.

The Local's Oliver Gee, who visited the region to explore the strange tradition, said that when he first heard it, he thought people were simply impressed by him.

It also sounds a bit like they might be a bit shocked.

"It's an easy way to say it, you don't have to open your mouth," added another.

"I'll bet 10 dollars you made a shwoop sound when you watched this video," added Magneto.

Commenters from cities in southern Sweden, including Stockholm, said it had been adopted there to some extent too.

Jen Reuterberg said he would write the word "fjo", although others use "shoop", "whoosh" or other spellings.

But is it really any easier than a nod, a "ja" or a few positive noises?

"I'd say it requires slightly less energy than saying 'mm'," said Stefan Andersson. "When saying 'mm', you have to breathe out air with enough power to get your vocal cords vibrating, but with 'suup' you only have to take a quick breath through your teeth."

IT'S easy to forget what a talented actor Jennifer Lopez is because of her singing prowess but the brunette beauty has reminded audiences of what a force on film she in her latest psychological thriller, The Boy Next Door.

It's being dubbed "the Fatal Attraction of 2015" and covers some pretty intense topics such as obsession and stalking.

In the film, a handsome, charming teenager named Noah (Ryan Guzman) moves in next door to a newly separated high-school teacher Claire Peterson (Jennifer Lopez). The pair engage in what seems like harmless flirtation until things take a sinister turn.

We sat down with the ever veracious Lopez to find out just what it was like filming such a passionately dark movie and how she handled the, gulp, raunchy nude scene ...

Has anyone ever been obsessed with you in real life?

I have had people kind of obsessive but not like an obsession that turns unhealthy or dangerous or scary. But I have felt like there was a little bit of an obsession at times. They just have to live with it.

Have you ever been obsessed with anyone?

No, not like that. No.

Apparently you had some trepidation about the sex scene?

I think everybody is always nervous when you have a scene like that in the movie but everybody I think realised it was just about finding the line. So the studios being nervous, the actor and the director having a vision of what he wants and finding the balance between all of those things so that it's actually about the story and not about just the sex. And I think all of us realise that it was really an integral scene and that connection and that moment really propels the rest of the film, because it really makes him crazy.

Was it the first time you had to be nude on screen?

No, it's not. Money Train. I have done versions of that over the years many times. You do thirty-something movies, (laughter) you are having love scenes a lot.

This movie is going to be referred to as 'the Fatal Attraction of 2015.' What do you think of that?

I don't know. I mean it's a fun movie for sure and it is about obsession but I am too humble to make that comparison.

Are you good at reading the red flags in a person?

I have gotten better. I realise that I was more of an ignorer of red flags. Like I saw them and then was just like, Ah, I didn't see that.' (laughs) But now I am more apt to act on it than I was when I was younger.

If you could warn someone against the dangers of being with an obsessive person, what would you tell them?

I think the biggest message that I could ever put out there is to love yourself. I think when we love ourselves we make good choices. And when we don't and we are not focused on that and then we make bad choices. I want to make the best choices for myself; I want to make good choices in a partner. I want to make good choices for my work and when we don't care about ourselves truly and genuinely and we don't think we have that worth or value, which I think a lot of people struggle with, we wind up making bad decisions for ourselves, whatever that may be. And I believe that through my music and through the book that I wrote, all the things that I do, I always try to get that message out there, because we are not taught that when we are little. We are taught to love others and take care of others and not of ourselves, and that's where everything starts. That's where all good starts, within each one of us.

Who is living next door to you?

Who is living next door to me? I would rather not talk about it; it's not the best experience of my life.

In Hollywood men date or marry younger women and what I like about this movie is that here's a more mature woman with a younger man and that has become more of the norm than in former years.

I used to think it was shocking that older women would be attractive to younger men. And I it's probably more realising than ever that we are at our best and as we get older, whereas before the thought was you are in your 20s and that's when you are at your best and after that it's downhill. And it's not that. And I think that has changed and that idea has changed. And so we are attractive and we are more interesting and we are more self-assured than we were ten years before and there's something sexy and attractive about that, to all men, including guys who are adults by the way, so what's the big deal? (laughs)

What is the best way of breaking up with someone so they get it? So it's final?

(laughs) I think to be direct. I think what we do is try to beat around the bush a little bit, but that never works. Just be direct. What did my mum used to say, just pull the Band-Aid off fast.

Do you do it in person?

Of course. Who doesn't do that? Cowards.

You said the most important thing is to love yourself. Who taught you that? Is that something you learned along the way?

No, I had to learn that the hard way, yeah. And recently. (laughs) In the past five years, that's become super evident to me. I feel like it took me a long time but I think it happens at a certain point in life, when you start becoming more aware of what is important and what you are doing wrong and you actually have patterns and that something is actually wrong with you and not everybody else. That it's actually you. And when you are humble enough and have been humbled enough to realise that and to start wanting to make changes.

You are an amazing multi-tasker. Do you see that in your kids?

Both my children are very different. They are twins, a boy and a girl, and very different personalities, but I find them both to be very loving and energetic and bright and joyful. They are different; they are different human beings, even than me or each other. They are very yin and yang. My daughter is very kind of quiet and artistic and introverted and my son is very boisterous and energetic and brilliant and smart. They are just different, they are both smart, they are both joyful; they are both loving, but just different people.

How much of yourself do you see in them?

I see myself in both of them a little bit, and I see their dad in them too.

What is your workout regimen like?

I was doing Tracy Anderson for a long time and I will continue doing her method this year as well. And then just weights, as you get older and stuff like that you start losing a little muscle and you realise that you have to do more protein and you have to adjust. What worked for you when you were in your 20s doesn't work for you when you are in your 40s, and everything is kind of evolving all the time and I just try to keep up with myself.

Do you start every morning with a protein shake?

That I do. That I have been doing for a year and a half. I do like starting that way and I feel like it sets me off on a good day. It gives me energy, it gives me the protein I need to start off the day, it's not greasy; it's not me making a bad choice first thing in the morning.

Valentine's Day is around the corner. What are your plans?

I have no plans for Valentine's Day, except to love myself. (laughter) That's it.

Stormtrooper suit saves man’s life

Scott Loxley is walking around Australia for charity in stormtrooper armour. As you do. He's trying to save children's lives by raising money for the Monash children's Hospital, but he never thought the armour would save his own life.

THIS is a story about a man whose stormtrooper outfit just saved him from almost certain death after being bitten by one of the world's deadliest snakes.

Yes, that really happened. So did a bunch of other stuff. We're going to do this in a list of 20 points to help make sense of it all.

1. Scott Loxley is a man.

2. Scott Loxley is not just any man. Scott Loxley is a former soldier and military policeman who is currently walking around Australia to raise money for the Monash Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

3. Charity walk. Yawn, right?

4. Wrong. Not yawn. Not even slightly yawn.

5. Here's why. Scott Loxley's lap of Australia is different to most others because he's wearing a stormtrooper suit the whole way. Uh-huh.

6. News.com.au asked Scott if he's a mad Star Wars nerd or something (we're not the first to ask) and he said nope.

"The stormtrooper is an awesome advertising device," he said. "No matter where I go, everyone knows who he is."

Which kind of explains everything and nothing, but anyway.

7. We also asked Scott if the suit is hot, given he's currently in central Queensland after crossing Australia's tropical north over summer. Unsurprisingly, Scott said: "yes".

"The heat and humidity have made every day almost unbearable, to the point where I wake up and go 'I can't put it on today'," he said.

"But if I don't, I won't finish. So every day I put on the armour and off I go."

8. Scott walks 50 to 75km every day, by the way. He started in Melbourne in September and will end up there again in June, all going to plan. He says he can't wait for the cooler weather to arrive as the sun has melted and cracked the stormtrooper outfit and it's pretty much held together with sticky tape.

9. Now for the bit you're waiting for. Yesterday, Scott was walking down the Bruce Highway between the tiny towns of Yalboroo and Calen. Towards dusk, he saw a snake. This in itself was nothing unusual. Scott has seen, and killed, and even eaten, plenty of snakes on his trip. But this time something different happened. Here's how he described the incident on the daily video blog he's uploading to Facebook each day from his iPad.

"Coming out of Yalboroo, across a bridge, heading up a bit of a hill, and as you do you see snakes on the road all the time but mainly dead snakes, and I'm walking up the hill and I see a snake on the side of the road and I think oh here's another dead snake, I'll just continue to walk past him. Turns out he wasn't dead, big old king brown, they love the cane fields up here, and he's lunged at me and bit me. But the good news is, he bit me in the shin, the armour actually protected me and stopped the bite. I could feel the teeth on the plastic scraping but the armour actually stopped something, so all the people who rag on the old stormtroopers, it stopped the snakebite and probably saved my life today. So yeah today's a good day and I'm pretty happy. That's the first time today a snake actually bit me and got away with it. Yeah, couldn't catch him, he was pretty aggressive and took off through the grass. I wasn't about to go after him."

10. Yes, that's right, his stormtrooper armour saved his life.

"Normally when you get bitten you feel a hot sensation, a burning," Scott told news.com.au. "But I looked down and saw scratched marks on the armour and realised it hadn't pierced it.

"I laughed at that point. I said 'snake, you had one shot and you blew it'."

11. This point on the list has no purpose except to give you more time to take in the previous point.

12. OK, so you've had a breather. Now you're probably wondering, wait a minute, this dude eats snakes???? Yes, he does. And that's just the beginning of it.

"I've eaten kangaroos, lizards, snake, a few bats on this trip. Bats taste as terrible as they smell."

Er, we bet they do Scott.

13. "Snakes aren't so bad," Scott continued. "I've eaten them all the way around the country. Normally of an evening they gravitate towards the road because the road retains its heat. I catch them by standing on them and holding their head, then I keep them alive by cable-tying them to a stick because they taste better when they're fresh."

Yes, of course they do.

14. Oh, and in case you're wondering, Scott says there's not much difference in taste between snake species. "I just cook 'em on the coals. The death adders taste the same as a brown snake," he helpfully explained.

15. We didn't ask a snake if all stormtrooper armour tastes the same, but we probably should have.

16. Scott's eating habits are actually rather unusual. He only eats every second day on his trip and drinks just 600 ml of water a day, which doesn't sound like much to us in the tropical heat, but Scott said it's enough for him.

17. What else can we tell you? Not much, except to say was munching on a hamburger at a hotel in the small town of Kuttabul, when we spoke. No, it wasn't a snake burger. Oh yeah, and he pushes a little trolley to keep all his essentials in. It kind of looks a bit like a pram.

18. Also, Scott wears shoes out really quickly and says it doesn't matter whether they're $300 shoes or cheapies, the rubber goes just as quickly. But he's solving this problem by using bits of truck tyre as re-treads.

19. Perhaps the most important thing we can do at this point is to wish Scott well, and encourage you to donate to his very worthy cause, the Monash Children's Hospital. You can do that here. Scott still needs around $60,000 or so to get to his goal of $100k.

Boko Haram wipes towns off map

DISTURBING satellite images show the destruction caused by Boko Haram fighters who slaughtered up to 2,500 people in the terror group's deadliest attack yet.

The images, released by Amnesty International, show the neighbouring Nigerian towns of Baga and Doron Baga before and after the Islamic militants carried out their horrific attacks, leaving over thousands of homes and businesses damaged or completely destroyed.

"These detailed images show devastation of catastrophic proportions in two towns, one of which was almost wiped off the map in the space of four days," said the group's Nigeria researcher, Daniel Eyre.

More than 3,700 structures were wiped out — 620 in Baga and more than 3,100 in Doron Baga, Amnesty said but added that the number could be higher.

Local officials have said Baga and at least 16 surrounding settlements were burnt to the ground and at least 20,000 people fled.

Amnesty has also revealed more horrific details about the group's deadly attack, claiming one woman was shot dead while she gave birth.

The human rights group said one witness to the assault on Baga told them the woman was shot by indiscriminate fire that also cut down small children.

"Half of the baby boy (was) out and she died like this," the unnamed witness was quoted as saying.

Amnesty said this week that hundreds of people, if not more, may have been killed in the attack, which began on January 3 and is thought to have targeted civilian vigilantes helping the military.

"They killed so many people. I saw maybe around 100 killed at that time in Baga. I ran to the bush. As we were running, they were shooting and killing," a man in his fifties was quoted as saying.

Another woman added: "I don't know how many but there were bodies everywhere we looked." The testimony chimes with claims from local officials that huge numbers were killed and that of witnesses spoken to by AFP, who described seeing decomposing bodies littering the streets.

One man who escaped from Baga after hiding for three days said he was "stepping on bodies" for five kilometres as he fled through the bush.

Nigeria's military, which often downplays death tolls, said this week that 150 people died, dismissing as "sensational" claims that 2,000 may have lost their lives.

Security analysts have said that it may be impossible to know exactly how many were killed, with the town and surrounding area still in rebel control and access impossible.

Medical charity Doctors Without Borders said on Tuesday that its team in the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, was providing assistance to 5,000 survivors of the attack.

The UN refugee agency has said that more than 11,300 Nigerian refugees have fled into neighbouring Chad.

Eyre said the eye-witnesses and images reinforced the view that the attack was Boko Haram's "largest and most destructive" in its fight to establish a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.

The statement added: "The deliberate killing of civilians and destruction of their property by Boko Haram are war crimes and crimes against humanity and must be duly investigated."

Some 300 women were said to have been rounded up and detained at a school, witnesses told Amnesty, adding that older women, mothers and children were released after four days but younger women kept.

The Baga attack came before presidential and parliamentary elections in Nigeria next month and an upsurge in violence apparently designed to undermine the legitimacy of the vote.

On Saturday, 19 people were killed when explosives strapped to a young girl said to be as young as 10 detonated at a crowded market in Maiduguri.

Four people were also killed when two female suicide bombers hit another market in the commercial capital of neighbouring Yobe State, Potiskum, on Sunday.

Restaurant offers free meals to hot customers

SOMETIMES it really does pay to be pretty.

A Korean restaurant in central China is attracting cute customers by offering free food to the 50 most attractive people who show up every day, The Telegraph reports.

"Free meal for Goodlooking," promised a bright pink sign placed outside the Jeju Island restaurant in Zhengzhou last Saturday.

Diners who believe their good looks merit a meal on the house will be brought to a "beauty identification area" where they will be photographed and judged by a panel of plastic surgeons whose services the shop is advertising.

Customers' faces, eyes, noses and mouths will all be evaluated — and protruding foreheads reportedly will put some deal-seekers ahead of the pack.

"I reckon I can get a one per cent discount with my face," joked one internet user on Weibo, a Chinese social media site.

"Do the ugly have to pay twice?" quipped another.

Local authorities aren't pleased with the beauty contest and say the restaurant is ruining the city's image.

On Tuesday, security guards and demolition workers took down the eatery's bold sign, claiming it never got the green light to put it up in the first place, according to China News Service.

But the restaurant's manager, Xue Hexin, isn't putting an end to the new discount anytime soon.

"We will be more prudent with our advertising in future," she said. "But the promotion will continue despite the demolition of our sign."

Cashier’s tirade: ‘All gays should die alone’

A MAJOR supermarket has been forced to apologise after a worker allegedly launched an anti-gay tirade at a lesbian couple she was serving.

A lesbian couple claim they overheard a Tesco worker say all gays "should die alone" and that homosexual people "should not have babies".

Another couple claim they overheard the comments as they were waiting to pay at Tesco Extra in Surrey Quays, East London.

The British supermarket chain confirmed it was investigating the incident which took place earlier this month.

Natalie Rivans told The Mirror she was in the store with her girlfriend when she overheard the cashier make the remarks about a pregnant lesbian couple in front of her in the queue.

The store manager apologised to her but then apparently made things worse when he said being gay was a "lifestyle choice," a comment which angered her even further.

"I am absolutely mortified, shocked and embarrassed at the incident," she said.

In a statement, Tesco said it had apologised to the customers involved.

"We work hard to make sure that everyone is welcome at Tesco and put great emphasis on celebrating diversity and ensuring that we are an inclusive place to work and shop," a spokesman said.

It wouldn't be the first time a company has been caught out for apparent anti-gay views.

In August last year, an Apple employee had the internet up in arms after handing an Oregon man a receipt with a homophobic slur in place of an email address.

Adam Catanzarite posted the receipt to his Facebook page criticising the company and calling on them to offer cultural competency training for all its employees.

Mr Catanzarite was later offered a refund and was given a voucher which he gave away.
